Venus and the crescent moon were clearly visible in the skies above the Harrogate district last night.

The rare phenomenon meant the planet could be seen with the naked eye just above the waxing moon.

Venus is sometimes referred to as the Evening Star or Morning Star because it is the brightest star.

This superb image was caught by Harrogate-based Caught Light Photography, which specialises in local sports journalism.

It posted the celestial shot on X and said:

Waxing crescent Moon 16% (0.54) in Pisces taken at around 4:30pm over #Harrogate, North Yorkshire, UK.

A quick grab shot while on a commissioned photoshoot.

Venus and Saturn are both expected to be visible this month and the two planets are expected to appear unusually close together on January 18.
