Disqualified driver jailed after 130mph chase through Minskip and Knaresborough
A disqualified driver who clocked more than 130mph during a police chase through Minskip and Knaresborough has been jailed.
Mohammed Muqadas Hussain, 22, of Heaton Road, Huddersfield, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
He was sentenced at York Magistrates Court to 12 months in prison and disqualified from driving for a further 18 months. He was also ordered to pay court costs.
According to North Yorkshire Police, the pursuit began at around 12.48am on Wednesday 23 September after the vehicle initially failed to stop for Durham Police.
It travelled into North Yorkshire, where roads policing officers picked it up on the A1(M) at Junction 50.
Hussain continued south, driving dangerously and at high speed in an attempt to evade officers.
During the pursuit, he reached speeds of more than 130mph. At one point, he drove at 110mph in a 30mph zone and went the wrong way around a roundabout near Morrisons in Minskip.
He continued out of Minskip on the A6055 towards Knaresborough Golf Club before the vehicle eventually came to a stop on Blackthorn Avenue.
Hussain abandoned the vehicle and ran from officers, but he was arrested a short time later.
Just two days after the pursuit, he was before the court and sent to prison.
The footage shows just some of the dangerous driving our officers faced that night.
The police statement added:
“And to the residents of Blackthorne Avenue in Knaresborough, sorry for the unexpected wake-up call in the early hours of the morning!”
