Emergency services were called to a track at Scar House Reservoir.

Rescuers were called to Upper Nidderdale in the early hours of this morning (January 5) to help people stuck in a car on an icy track.

Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association said it was called to Scar House Reservoir by the ambulance service just after midnight to assist “distressed persons” who were struggling to drive in the “icy and snowy conditions”.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's overnight incident report said a crew from Summerbridge also responded to the incident at 18 minutes past midnight. The report said people were “trapped in a vehicle down a track” and firefighters led them to safety.

UWFRA added:

As communications with the reporting party was difficult due to the remote location, a small team was despatched to help. On arrival at scene, it was found that the fire service and ambulance crew had managed to make contact and was assisting the casualty. The team was therefore stood down.

The news comes amid a nationwide cold snap and weather warnings for snow and ice across the Harrogate district.
