An application has been submitted to convert farmland near Harrogate into a dog day-care centre.
Bruce’s Pet Care Ltd, which is based in Stoke D'Abernon in Surrey, has submitted a proposal to change the use of land at Spring House Farm in North Rigton to establish a dedicated dog day care facility, transitioning from its current equestrian-based use.
The farm, on Brackenthwaite Lane, is currently used for horse grazing and exercising and is the site of the Harrogate Riding Centre.
However, the riding centre will not be relocating.
Spring House Farm comprises 23 acres of land, with the new dog day care centre only applying to convert 0.95 acres.
A spokesperson for the riding centre told the Stray Ferret:
The riding centre would stay, and the day care wouldn’t interfere with our operations. With the rising costs [of leased land], we had to look at other options to help bring revenue in.
The proposed site.
Under the proposals, the land would be used to provide day care for up to 48 dogs.
Two converted shipping containers would be used as an indoor space for the dogs, while the rest of the 0.95 acres would be green space for them to roam in.
As seen in the image, the shipping containers would have wooden cladding to 'keep the rural aesthetic'.
The site was already surrounded by fencing to contain horses, and would be left in place to keep the dogs in.
The proposal states that the business would only operate from Monday to Friday between 8am and 5.30pm.
‘Dog buses’ would be used to transport the pets to the site, having the capacity to pick up 16 at a time. The application proposes to use three dog buses at a time.
The application states that the company is confident that its noise management plans are effective.
North Yorkshire Council will make a decision on the plan at a later date.
