What’s the best way to divide opinion in North Yorkshire? How about installing the county’s first ever fixed speed camera — which happened this week.
On Monday, North Yorkshire Police put the camera in place on the A64 Sherburn High Street. But just hours into its first day, it was vandalised.
The prospect of installing speed cameras divides opinion at the best of times.
But, fixed cameras are new to North Yorkshire and have left some with split opinions. A cursory glance at the Stray Ferret website comments sections shows some describing the vandalism as “mindless” while others are sceptical of the camera in the first place.
Regardless, Tim Forber, chief constable of North Yorkshire Police, is firmly for the installation of fixed speed cameras — so perhaps we may see more installed while he is post.
From the saga over the speed camera, we also had an update on the saga over Knaresborough’s land train this week.
The future over the land train was included in a report written by consultants Carey Tourism this week.
According to author Ben Cary, the train could – and should – finally go ahead, so long as new funding sources can be found.
Finally, the protests over school transport in North Yorkshire took a trip to Glastonbury last weekend.
The eagle eyed among our readers may have already seen the demonstrations during the coverage of the festival on the West Holts stage — which also hosted Kneecap and Bob Vylan.
For those who did not see it, you can read the full story here.
