A man was rescued after falling at How Stean Gorge near Pateley Bridge yesterday (August 16).
Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) was called to the incident by both North Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service after a man had fallen “some distance” at the Nidderdale tourist attraction.
Alongside police and paramedics, the fell rescuers were joined by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service firefighters and a specialist rescue unit, a Yorkshire Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team from Leeds and an air ambulance crew to rescue the man.
UWFRA today said:
As we arrived, the Helimed paramedic had been walked round into the gorge and was with the casualty and providing care, they were soon assisted by the NYFRS [North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue] specialist rescue members.
After a quick multi-agency briefing, we were tasked with setting up and managing the rigging to haul the casualty back out of the gorge.
Fell rescuers rigged the haul and the man was transferred to a stretcher.
He was hauled to the bridge that runs over the gorge, before being treated by paramedics and transported to hospital in the air ambulance.
“It was great to work with all the other agencies in effecting a prompt and safe rescue. We wish the casualty a speed recovery”, UWFRA added.
