Entries are officially open for Harrogate in Bloom’s summer garden competition.
The competition has four sections: communal grounds, pubs & restaurants, hotels & guest houses and residential community.
Harrogate in Bloom is an independent organisation established in 1989 and is made up of volunteers. According to their website they aim to help with:
Promoting and improving the floral image and beauty of Harrogate.
Anyone other than private gardens can enter the competition, with apartments, care homes and businesses all invited to take part.
Entry is free and each entrant is awarded with a certificate of participation. The gardens are awarded gold, silver and bronze, with the overall winner given a trophy.

The gardens are judged on horticulture, environmental matters and community matters, they are judged by horticulture experts in July.
The competition has run annually for more than 40 years.
Mary Mann, competition administrator at Harrogate in Bloom, said:
People can enter even if they just have one pot of plants. I would encourage everyone to get involved and just give it a go. If you like gardening or already have a lovely garden just enter, you’ve not lost anything by trying and everyone gets recognised for entering.
The closing date for entries is June 30. There is also school garden competition, entry forms have been sent to all Harrogate schools, the closing date for their entries is June 21.
