Autumn is upon us, and social schedules are getting packed with the sort of seasonal treats and events befitting the latter stages of the year.

The Stray Ferret’s Lifestyle team is committed to covering not only the region’s upcoming events, but also highlighting all the stories from Harrogate and the district’s residents and businesses.

Last Monday, we headed over to Knaresborough to attend a Man V FAT session to find out more about the football league where losing is winning.

After spotting the knitted post box topper on Queen Parade, we discovered it was part of Quaker Week celebrations – and that prompted us to dive into the history of the movement in the region.

Our lifestyle writer Francesca recently spent the evening at Aldwark Manor’s fine dining restaurant Chartwell – which was awarded three AA Rossettes last week – to explore whether it lived up to the mantra of ‘expect the unexpected’.

Theatre reviewer Lauren went to watch Little Women at York’s Theatre Royal, which runs until October 12. She described it as a ‘cosy classic’ – find out whether she’d recommend a trip down the A59 to attend a performance.

Finally, our food writer Yemi was stoking the flames of friendly competition and pitting the Bettys Fat Racal against other similar products from local bakeries and cafes, to compare and contrast one of Yorkshire’s favourite delicacies.

Look out for more taste-tests of iconic regional products in the future – and if you have any suggestions for dishes you’d like her to cover, you can email contact@thestrayferret.co.uk.

Subscribers to the Stray Ferret can enjoy a range of fantastic exclusive offers, discounts and giveaways from local businesses, which we regularly update.

This week we’re featuring our partnership with Chaos - one of the Victoria Shopping Centre’s newest shops - which sells a range of mythical collectables, from dragon sculptures to werewolf scent burners, cards, tarot cards and clothing.

If you spend £25 in-store, you can get enjoy a 15% discount.

Don’t miss out on quality local news in the district - by subscribing for just £4.99 a month or £49.99 annually, you will be able to access all daily news, in-depth features and lifestyle content as well as a whole range of fantastic exclusive discounts and offers.
