Nothing says the end of summer quite like the return of wintery weather, and last week Harrogate and the district braced itself for Storm Lillian.
Not only did the Stray Ferret news team reported the pre-emptive closure of several regional attractions, but we also ran a live blog throughout Friday, bringing the latest updates for travel disruption and damage, to keep residents safe and informed.
Another breaking news story that we followed as it happened was the barn fire on Ripon Road. We published the initial story, and stayed close to every development, including the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s conclusion on the cause of the blaze.
Following the end to the long-running 53-home development on Knox Lane - which has been fiercely contested over four years - last weekend we looked back on our extensive coverage, and explored how the conclusion was reached, and what comes next for residents of the area.
It was quite the weekend for exclusive interviews; we spoke to Reverend Joseph Amoah, minister at St Paul's URC about how his varied and fascinating life led him to Harrogate, following a three year search for a new minister for the church.
It’s been nearly two months since Harry Satloka - the face of the Harrogate Free Walking Tours – set off on his charity cycle ride to Cairo, raising money for Artizan.
The Stray Ferret is pleased to have a ‘Harry hotline’ to keep readers informed of his progress, and last weekend we caught up with him along his route, to find out the latest.
Wednesday, August 28, marks the official start of the Paris Paralympic Games 2024, and the district will be getting behind Lottie McGuinness, Team GB’s powerlifter, and the only representative from the region.
Just before she jetted off to the French capital she spoke to the Stray Ferret about her hopes and expectations at the games. We wish her the best of luck, and will be watching with bated breath, come the competition on September 5.
Finally, subscribers to the Stray Ferret can take advantage of a range of fantastic exclusive offers, discounts and giveaways from local businesses, which we regularly update.
This week we’re highlighting our partnership with Stump Cross Caverns, which is offering 10% off tickets with a code, when purchased online.
Don’t miss out on quality local news in the district - by subscribing for just £4.99 a month or £49.99 annually, you will be able to access all daily news, in-depth features and lifestyle content as well as a whole range of fantastic exclusive discounts and offers.
