Fire crews tackle crop fire near Ripon
Fire crews were called to tackle a crop far near Ripon this afternoon.
Firefighters from Harrogate, Ripon, Thirsk and Richmond were called to the blaze on Shambles Lane at Hutton Conyers at around 1.30pm.
An incident report from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said it involved a standing crop fire measuring approximately 200m by 500m.
A statement from the service this afternoon said:
Crews are working alongside farmers to create fire breaks and dampen down the perimeter of the fire. In use are four hose reel jets and eight beaters.
If you are travelling on the A1(M), please be aware that smoke may be visible in the area. Please avoid the area where possible.
The service said crews used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots before handing over to the landowner. Fire crews would also revisit the site in the morning, the statement added.
