The Harrogate district is expected to wake to snow and ice tomorrow (November 19) after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning.

The warning is in place from 7pm tonight (November 18) to 10am tomorrow morning. Gritters will operate tonight and the National Trust has already said Brimham Rocks, near Pateley Bridge, will close tomorrow due to the conditions.

Forest Moor School in Darley announced this afternoon it will close in the morning due to the weather.

RHS Harlow Carr, in Harrogate, also said it will be closed until midday tomorrow. It said updates on reopening will be posted on social media.

According to the Met Office rain, sleet, and snow will arrive from about 8pm this evening and continue overnight until about 6am.

Temperatures are expected to plunge as low as minus two in rural areas but it could feel as cold as minus eight.

The Met Office warning for the area currently says:

The most likely scenario is for most of the snow to accumulate on hills, with 5 to 10 cm possible above 200 metres and perhaps as much as 15 to 20 cm above 300 metres.

There is a chance of snow settling at lower levels, where 5 to 10 cm would prove much more disruptive - this remains uncertain, but seems most likely across parts of Yorkshire.

Motorists and commuters are being urged to prepare for delays and cancellations.
