An investigation into a suspected arson attack in Boroughbridge has been launched.
North Yorkshire Police today said officers were called to a property on Springfield Grove shortly after 11pm last night (May 15).
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log said fire crews from Ripon, Knaresborough, Harrogate, Acomb and Thirsk also responded to numerous reports of the blaze at a residential property.
An aerial appliance from Harrogate was also taken to the scene.
The incident log added the fire affected 100% of the property on Springfield Grove and caused damage to the roof of a neighbouring house.
Firefighters used 12 breathing apparatus, six hoses, small tools and thermal imaging to extinguish the fire.
Police said nobody was inside the property during the fire, but crime scene investigators and fire investigation officers believe the fire was started deliberately.
The fire is being treated as arson and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
The police's statement added:
We are now appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident that witnessed anything suspicious to come forward. Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who has captured dashcam footage or ring doorbell footage. If you can help, please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote reference number 12250087306.
A cordon remains in place at the scene to allow investigation work to be carried out.
However, officers believe the fire was an isolated incident and an increased number of high-visibility patrols are in the area to reassure the local community.
Meanwhile, in Ripon, firefighters responded to reports of a derelict building on fire at 6.31pm.
Crews from Ripon and Harrogate went to the scene, where the fire measured one metre by one metre.
The Firby Lane building measures 15 metres by 30 metres.
Firefighters used a triple extension ladder, a thermal imaging camera and a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.
The cause is believed to have been deliberate, the fire service said.
