A plan to build five self-build homes in Scotton has been approved.
Generate Real Estate Ltd, which is based in Harrogate, submitted the proposal to North Yorkshire Council for land at Havikil Lane.
The plan will see five plots on the site allocated to self-build homes, meaning someone can design and construct a new home for themselves.
Each of the plots would see a detached house built, according to planning documents.
In a planning statement submitted to the council, the developer said the scheme would help to “enhance the existing environment”.
It said:
The applicant’s ambition for Havikil Lane is to enhance the existing environment with a small scale, unintrusive self-build housing scheme for up to 5 detached dwellings. The development will provide an opportunity for individuals build their own family homes in the thriving community of Scotton.
North Yorkshire Council has approved the proposal.
In a decision report, Mike Parkes, planning case officer at the council, said it was acknowledged that there was a shortfall in self-build homes in the county.
He said:
The fact the site lies outside of, although adjacent to, the development limit of Scotton would in the circumstances of a five-year housing supply have meant extra weight would have to been given to the provision of self-building housing to outweigh the otherwise operative objection to new housing. There is an acknowledged short fall of self build.
