The Environment Agency has issued four flood alerts in the Harrogate district after a day of persistent rain.
The alerts, for the River Nidd and River Ure, were all issued between 5pm and 6pm.
Three of the alerts are for the upper, middle and lower reaches of the Nidd.
The upper Nidd alert says flooding is possible this evening and overnight on low lying land and roads, particularly around the tributaries How Stean Beck, Blayshaw Gill, Ramsgill Beck, Lul Beck, Foster Beck, Fosse Gill, Fell Beck and Darley Beck.
The Environment Agency said:
“We are closely monitoring the situation and liaising with emergency services and local authorities. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.”
The middle Nidd alert says tributaries Thornton Beck, Newton Beck, Oak Beck, Cow Dyke Beck, Bilton Beck, Frogmire Dike and Syke Dike are most likely to flood.
The Environment Agency said:
“Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourse and do not attempt to walk, drive or cycle through flood water.”
The lower Nidd alert sats land and roads around Sand Beck, Sike Beck, Pool Beck and Great Gutter are at risk of flooding.
An alert for the lower River Ure said:
“Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Skell, River Ure, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around low-lying land including agricultural land and local roads in the areas around Masham, Boroughbridge, Aldborough and Bishop Monkton.”
The Environment Agency said it would update its messages by 5am tomorrow (September 21) “or as the situation changes”.
