A developer has formally submitted plans for 120 homes in Killinghall.
Bellway Strategic Land has put forward outline plans to build the houses on a 16-acre field just off the A61 Ripon Road.
Bellway said the development would include a “large new area of open space”, which would be accessible to residents, as well as "wildlife-friendly planting" and a pond to manage surface water and support natural habitats.
The application comes after a public consultation on the proposed development was held in October. The Stray Ferret attended the event, which you can read about here.
Alex Bowling, Bellway strategic land manager for the north, said:
Our plans for this site would provide around 120 high-quality new homes for the area, including 40 per cent affordable housing for local people, in a location where new homes are desperately needed.
The project would also bring a range of other benefits, creating nearly six acres of new public open space for both new and existing residents to use.
This is a really sustainable location, as people living here would be able to walk into the village centre or take the bus to Harrogate or Ripon. We’re planning to upgrade the footpath along Ripon Road and provide a new zebra crossing, as well as linking to existing public rights of way and improving the bus stop next to the site to support the use of public transport.

Mr Bowling added the company has taken Killinghall residents’ feedback on board following the public consultation.
The developer also claimed the proposal would bring “inward investment” to the local area and new jobs would be created during the construction process.
Bellway Strategic Land added:
Overall, the project would create a biodiversity net gain of at least 10 per cent through the retention of extensive hedgerows and trees and the create of new wildlife habitats.
Bellway’s outline proposals will be considered by North Yorkshire Council. Detailed plans would be submitted at a later stage subject to planning permission.
The proposal is one of four potential developments in Killinghall announced in recent months, which would together see around 425 new homes.
The proposed developments are:
• 75 homes by Miller Homes on land at Picking Croft Lane, just off Otley Road
• 130 homes by Hallam Land off Otley Road
• 100 homes by Gladman Developments off Otley Road
• 120 homes by Bellway off Ripon Road
A Killinghall resident set up an online petition in October calling for an end to new homes being built in Killinghall, which has now amassed more than 650 signatures.
