A former employee at a Harrogate pharmacy admitted to stealing thousands of pounds worth of prescription medication yesterday (July 24).
Kurt Day, of Guildford Walk in Sheffield, pleaded guilty to theft by an employee during the hearing at Harrogate Magistrates Court.
Sarah Tyrer, prosecuting, told the court Day was a team leader at Well Pharmacy Harrogate, on Cold Bath Road, when he stole the drugs periodically between August 2024 and February this year.
Senior staff at the pharmacy realised over time the amount of stock they were ordering did not match the amount of stock in the dispensary, and believed there to be an £8,000 shortfall.
They decided to install CCTV inside the pharmacy, and Day was soon captured “helping himself” to prescription medication.
In total, the 38-year-old defendant stole 60 boxes of Dihydrocodeine - a drug used to treat severe pain - and 40 boxes of weight-loss jab Mounjaro, the court heard.
The stolen drugs had a total value of £4,285.57.
Day, who was not legally represented in court, spoke only to confirm his name and address as the case was quickly adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
He will return to Harrogate Magistrates Court on August 29 for sentence.
