North Yorkshire Council is offering free, short-stay parking whilst major resurfacing work is carried out in Ripon.
The council will next week begin replacing the concrete blocks in Market Place East. It is the first phase of the scheme that will run until November 25.
Ripon City Council leader this week assured residents the work will not impact the city’s Remembrance Parade and Christmas Light switch-on, but a full road closure will be in place in the area.
Today the council’s executive member for highways and transport, Cllr Keane Duncan, announced there would be free parking.
Cllr Duncan said:
The first phase of a major resurfacing scheme to improve the road around Ripon Market Place will begin on Monday (October 28).
We have listened to concerns raised by Ripon Business Improvement District and local councillors around the disruption the works may cause.
Therefore, we are pleased to offer half an hour of free parking in the Market Place throughout November and December.
The Stray Ferret this week reported temporary measures, including the relocation of the taxi rank to Market Place West and diversions, will also be in place.
People will be able to access Market Place West during the four-week period
The second phase will start on January 7, which will cover the rest of the Market Place, as well as Kirkgate and Duck Hill.
