Two friends plan to make their ascent of Scafell Pike in the Lake District even more difficult next weekend – by carrying a 60kg (132lb) barbell to the summit.
Jackson Turner, from Knaresborough, and Jordan Prideaux, from Harrogate, are hoping to break the record for carrying the heaviest weight up England’s highest mountain.
The pair, who have been training for the challenge at Pure Gym in Knaresborough, will be making their attempt on the record next Saturday (August 16) to raise £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Jackson told the Stray Ferret:
We both liked the idea of climbing Scafell Pike, but then thought ‘how can we make it harder for ourselves, to persuade people to part with their cash?’ Sixty kilograms seemed like the heaviest weight we could manage without killing ourselves!
We hope to have a few mates there to support us, but we’ll see who can make it on the day. The forecast is for sunshine and 20 degrees, so it could get quite sweaty, but that’s better than rain.
We’ve both had quite a lot of family members who have been affected by cancer, so it’s a cause that’s close to our hearts.
Anyone wanting to support the pair on their epic record-breaking attempt can sponsor them via their JustGiving page.
