On Saturday, (December 14) Harrogate Rugby Union Football Club took on Leeds Tykes in a big local derby.
By coincidence, the match was Sam Brady’s 250th appearance for Harrogate and his brother Jake’s 100th appearance for Leeds Tykes. However, it was Jake who went home with the points in the National League 2 North encounter.
Harrogate started fast and scored the first try in the fourth minute through Amrit Sharma in the right-hand corner. Leeds’ response came five minutes later through Ewan Evans, converted by James Watts.
Eliah Chitiyo got his first try for Tykes in the 30th minute, following a midfield break, converted by Watts, before Sharma got Gate’s second five minutes later.
Leeds stretched their lead with two further tries just before half-time to lead 26–10 at the break.
The visitors went on to win 47–22 in Leeds’ favour. It means Harrogate are now second from bottom in the table. Next week, they face a tough trip to fifth-placed Wharfedale for their final game of 2024.
