People of many denominations gathered on Market Square yesterday morning for Ripon's annual open air Palm Sunday service, followed by a procession to the cathedral,
The ecumenical gathering was led by the Dean of Ripon, the Very Revd John Dobson and the palm gospel was read by Fr Jonathan Hart, parish priest of St Wilfrid's Catholic Church.
The event celebrated Christ's triumphant ride into Jerusalem, just days before he was crucified. Lily, the 24-year-old donkey who has led the procession from Market Square to the cathedral in previous years, was again present and attracted a lot of attention.

Barrie Price, Bernadine and Barry Oluoma, who are parishioners at St Wilfrid's, were present for the open air service.
The procession went down Kirkgate and to the cathedral, where a Sung Eucharist service was held.
Lily the donkey and her handler Lily Horn joined the congregation after leading the procession into the cathedral.
