A government planning inspector has given the go-ahead for new camping pods at a Sicklinghall pub.
The Scotts Arms proposed the pods in a disused part of its car park on Main Street in the village.
The pub proposed four camping pods at the site and an associated water tank.
However, North Yorkshire Council rejected the plan in October 2025 on the grounds that noise from the development “would be harmful to neighbouring residents”.
Punch Partnerships, which owns the pub, took the decision to the government’s Planning Inspectorate, which deals with planning disputes.
In his decision, Darren Hendley, a government planning inspector, pointed out that the camping pods would be located at the rear of the car park and, therefore, it would be “unlikely” that unacceptable cumulative effects of noise would occur.
Mr Hendley added that the proposal was moderate in size and was in an appropriate location. He said the site was also “compatible with neighbouring land uses” and was in an area where noise impacts “can be adequately controlled”.
He said:
I conclude that the proposal would not have an unacceptable effect on the living conditions of the occupiers of the neighbouring residential properties by way of noise.
