A Green Hammerton pub is set to reopen this weekend under new owners.

The Bay Horse, on York Road, will open for business again this Saturday (August 16).

The pub closed late in July due to "unforseen circumstances", but only a few weeks later it is set to reopen. Brett and Bronte Jackson will be the building’s new landlord and landlady.

The Stray Ferret spoke to Mr and Ms Jackson, who told us why they’d decided to purchase the site. Mr Jackson said:

This is our local pub. We’ve been coming here for around five years and always thought it had so much potential. When we found out it had closed, we knew we had to have it.

It’s a lovely village in the countryside with a good mix of young families and older generations. We want to make this the hub of the village where everyone can come and enjoy a drink.

Ms Jackson added that, because the pub is right in the centre of the village, it’s always been a big part of the Green Hammerton community. With the village constantly growing, she hopes that the pub can be at the heart of that.

The couple have plenty of experience in hospitality — running a wedding business and a marquee hire business, owning a wedding venue in Skipbridge, and running pop-up tipi bars around Yorkshire.

So how will that help them run their new pub? Ms Jackson said:

Hospitality and customer service are at the heart of our wedding venture. We only get one chance to get it right when we’re hosting a wedding, so everything has to be perfect. We want to take that into how we operate the pub.”

The Bay Horse will be open from 11am to 11pm Monday to Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, it will close an hour later, at 12am, and on Sundays it will close at 9pm. Parking charges have been removed at the premises.

The couple are currently hiring kitchen staff, and hopes to have the kitchen up and running by mid-September.

In the meantime, bar snacks like Voakes Pies will be available.
