A joint venture bringing a greengrocer and delicatessen together on one site will open soon in Ripon.
Friends James Potter, who owns and runs The Greengrocer Bedale and Reece Norton, who formerly owned and ran the A&R Menus deli food van with his wife Alice, are joining forces to open a large unit in The Arcade.
The shop, previously occupied by the Blue Cross animal charity, is currently being fitted out, with the aim of opening early next month under the name of The Greengrocer Ripon and Norton's Deli.
Mr Potter told the Stray Ferret:
I met Reece when we worked together at the General Tarleton in Ferrensby, where he was the chef. We got on very well together, but had to go our separate ways when much of the hospitality sector was closed down by covid,
Now we are going to be reunited, with Reece and Alice taking a third of the floorspace for their deli and the rest of the shop selling fruit and vegetables.
Mr Potter added:
Having traded successfully in Bedale since 2021, Ripon was the logical next step for opening a second shop.
As in Bedale, I will be selling as much locally-sourced and grown produce as possible while Reece with his chef skills, develops the deli with Alice.
Ms Norton said:
Reece and I used to come to Ripon with our food van for the Little Bird Artisan markets and we think it's an absouletly fantastic city.
We look forward to working alongside James and meeting up with customers that we used to serve at the markets.
