Harrogate and Nidderdale charities recognised for work supporting young people

Charities in Harrogate and Nidderdale have been recognised for their work supporting children and young people in the region.
Just B and New Beginnings Peer Support Group in Harrogate, along with Autism Angels in Summerbridge, were honoured at an event marking the end of Dr Ruth Smith’s term as High Sheriff of North Yorkshire.
The event at Allerton Castle, near Knaresborough, saw high sheriff awards presented to seven grassroots community organisations that support young people in North Yorkshire.
Just B was chosen for its trauma-informed leadership work with children. New Beginnings Peer Support was recognised for empowering young people who have experienced domestic abuse in and around Harrogate.
Autism Angels was selected for the resilience it instils in children and young people through horses.
The other winners were Whitby Hidden Impairment Support & Help, the Wave Project, The Island in York and the Gallows Close Centre in Scarborough

High sheriffs are ceremonial officers who represent the sovereign in their county. They are appointed by the king each year.
Raising awareness of the lasting effects of domestic abuse on children was a priority for Dr Smith during her tenure in the role.
The event was organised by Two Ridings Community Foundation, which supoorts grassroots community organisations in North and East Yorkshire.
