A long-established Harrogate auctioneers is moving to new premises this weekend.
Harrogate Auction Centre has operated out of Hammerain House on Beech Avenue, just off Leeds Road, for about a dozen years.
But it will hold its first sale at its new home at Follifoot Ridge Farm Business Park this weekend.
Owner George Allen told the Stray Ferret the auction house would continue to provide the same service, but the new location had more parking space.
The venue will be open for viewings between 11am and 3pm on Saturdays. Auctions, which typically include several hundred lots of items including furniture, household goods, jewellery and bric-a-brac, will be held online every Sunday.
Like many auctioneers, Mr Allen switched to online auctions during covid.
Having been in the trade for 45 years, he admitted he missed the excitement of conducting bids in front of a room full of people.
But he said he still got a buzz from not knowing what he would find each week, and had no intention of retiring.
He said:
I eat and sleep it. I’ll do it until I die on the gavel one day.
