A charity shop on Harrogate’s Beulah Street has closed.
Scope permanently closed its doors on Wednesday (September 18), after 11 years on the street.
The announcement follows the closure of the Ripon and Knaresborough branches over the last few years.
The charity stated accessibility issues paired with the cost-of-living crisis as the reason for its closure.
The shop had a 50% off sale in the lead-up to its closure and the closest Scope store is now in Leeds.
Debbie Boylen, head of retail at Scope, told the Stray Ferret:
We were very sad to close our charity shop in Beulah Street. We’ve had such incredible support from this wonderful and generous community. We never take the decision to close our stores lightly, recognising the impact it has on our store teams, volunteers and customers.
However, our Harrogate shop was not fully accessible for disabled people, and we have throughout our decision-making process, been listening to their concerns.

She added:
In certain locations across the UK, some of our stores no longer remain viable to trade and the cost-of-living crisis coupled with the pandemic, has also placed enormous pressure on stores trading on high streets across the UK and Scope is sometimes faced with very difficult decisions to close our stores.
We are looking to opening in other communities where we’re confident we can raise the vital funds so that Scope can continue to provide vital support services for the country’s 16 million disabled people and their families.
