Harrogate Business Improvement District has appointed Gemma Rio as interim chief executive following the sudden resignation of Matthew Chapman.
Mr Chapman resigned as chief executive on June 17. In a short statement, the organisation said it was due to 'personal reasons'.
Ms Rio, former head of tourism at North Yorkshire Council, has taken over on a part-time basis with immediate effect.
Simon Midgley, BID chair, said the search for a permanent chief executive was underway.
The BID is committed to maintaining momentum across its core projects and initiatives while securing the right long-term leadership for the organisation. The search is now underway to appoint a permanent chief executive who will lead the BID into its next phase.
To ensure continuity during this transition, Harrogate BID has appointed Gemma Rio as Interim CEO. Gemma’s experience in place leadership and destination management will support us as we continue to champion the interests of businesses across the town.
Matthew Chapman,
Mr Chapman took charge of Harrogate BID, which is funded by town centre businesses to increase footfall, in May 2021.
He helped to secure another five-year term for the organisation in 2023.
