Artizan Café in Harrogate is back open for business today after a fire above the premises over the weekend.
Firefighters from Harrogate and Knaresborough were called to the café, on Cambridge Road, on Saturday (June 1) at 8.55pm.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's incident report said the fire was on the first floor of the premises, rather than the ground floor café.
It added:
Crews extinguished a fire using six breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, small tools and the aerial ladder platform. The cause was believed accidental due to an electrical fault.
Firefighters at the scene.
Artizan Café, is part of Artizan International charity which supports people with disabilities and offers them employment opportunities in hospitality.
The Stray Ferret approached the venue for an update this morning.
Liz Cluderay, Artizan International UK director, said:
We are lucky the fire was reported quickly, and we are very grateful for all of the support we have been given. We currently have a fundraiser which people have been donating to already.
She added it had no further details of the incident at this stage.
However, Artizan International shared an update on social media, which said:
We are delighted to report that our café and creative space have not been affected. We know this will be a huge shock to our staff, volunteers, members and local community and we are so grateful for all your messages of support and offers of help.
At the moment we are waiting for reports and the insurers but we will let you know if you can help practically when we know more.
The charity has an appeal to raise over £7,000 to replace old and broken equipment, including an automatic door to improve accessibility.
To support the appeal, contact Liz Cluderay at liz.cluderay@artizaninternational.org or call 01423 509251 or donate directly to the crowdfunder page here.
