A Harrogate waste management company has secured a nine-figure "landmark agreement" to supply waste plastic to one of the UK's largest recycling plants.

Under the exclusive five-year deal, Clearpoint Recycling will send 35,000 tonnes of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) a year to a waste plastics recycling plant at Ellesmere Port that Cheshire-based Enviroo will open in 2027.

PET is widely used for food and drink packaging, particularly for clear plastic bottles, as well as in textiles and films.

The waste PET, which will be sourced from across the UK, will be recycled into certified food-grade recycled PET (rPET) to meet the growing demand in the global market.

A statement announcing the agreement today described it as being a 'significanr nine-figure deal' but the precise value was not revealed.

Mark Garrett, managing director at Clearpoint Recycling, said:

We are delighted to be supplying one of the UK’s largest and most innovative plastic recycling plants.

It’s a very exciting time for us as an independent company – this new deal allows us to create new jobs within commercial and operational functions in a fast-moving sector.

With our launch into Lithuania earlier this year, we have big ambitions and we look forward to continuing our journey of growth, with our core strategy to source locally and sell globally in delivery of this vital global mission.

Clearpoint also said the multimillion-pound deal would strengthen the UK’s recycling infrastructure, as well as supporting the implementation of the Governments Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), ensuring a robust supply chain for recovered PET bottles.

Ahmed Detta, chief executive of Enviroo, added:

This landmark agreement with Clearpoint Recycling is a significant step forward in strengthening the UK’s circular economy.

By securing a consistent, high-quality supply of PET material, we are ensuring that our facility at Ellesmere Port will play a crucial role in turning waste into valuable, certified, food-grade recycled PET.

Founded in 2012, Clearpoint Recycling works directly with a number of Yorkshire-based companies, including Yorwaste and H W Martin Waste Ltd to find effective routes to market for recovered recyclable materials.
