Harrogate Hockey Club’s men’s second team were crowned league champions after a convincing 5-0 win over Doncaster on Saturday (March 14).
With second-placed York five points behind, Harrogate went into their penultimate game knowing a win would secure them the Yorkshire Open Division Two title.
Captain Josh Lyon’s side showed the dominance that has defined their season, systematically picking apart the eighth-placed side.
Lyon opened the scoring, then added another after Oliver Sanderson had bagged two. Peter Shipston scored last to round off an impressive display.
Harrogate have been ruthless in the league this season, winning 16 of their 21 games. They have scored 58 and conceded 23.
Notable performances include a 3-1 victory over Leeds, a 5-0 victory over Sheffield, and a 4-1 away win over York.
Harrogate will be promoted to the Yorkshire Open Division One for next season, and will play against many clubs’ first teams, such as Rotherham, Halifax and Huddersfield Dragons.
Harrogate's first-team plays in the Yorkshire & North East Open Premier Division against teams across Yorkshire and Northumberland. The second team plays solely in a Yorkshire league.
The second team's title-crowning final fixture will take place away to Sheffield on Saturday (March 21) at 11.30am.
