Harrogate hotel for sale again as new owner rethinks aparthotel plans
A Harrogate hotel that was bought earlier this year by a company with plans to turn it into an aparthotel is back on the market.
Ascot House Hotel on King's Road was formerly a family-run business, and was put up for sale following the owner’s retirement.
St David Aparthotels, which is based in Chester, bought it in March with the intention of turning it into 19 studio apartments, and the hotel’s former manager was reported to be joining the company to oversee the property’s operation.
But St David appears now to have changed its plans, and the property – which still appears to be configured as a hotel – is up for sale with Christie & Co with a price-tag of £1.45 million.
The price includes 19 rooms, two function rooms and a 35-cover restaurant.
An apartment hotel, or aparthotel, is a type of serviced accommodation that combines the self-catering facilities of a private apartment with the services and amenities of a traditional hotel.
Gillygate by the Walls, the seven-bed aparthotel being developed by St David Aparthotels in York.
St David Aparthotels was founded by property developer Tony Davies, who first established his business in 1990 in Hong Kong, offering UK properties to investors based there.
It currently has four aparthotels in Barrow-in-Furness and is currently converting a property on Gillygate in York into a seven-bed aparthotel.
