Saltergate Infant School in Harrogate has received its latest Ofsted report.

Government inspectors rated the 131-pupil school ‘good’ overall, meaning the school continues its rating from its previous full inspection in 2015.

The school on Newby Crescent teaches children aged 2-7 years old and is part of a federation with Saltergate Junior School. Headteacher, Joanne Hall, oversees both schools.

Inspectors visited the school in July and said that the infant school prioritises “personal development as well as their academic progress".

Ofsted also highlighted that “pupils are proud to be part of Saltergate Infant school,” and “try their very best in all they do".

The report added that nursery children are nurtured at the school and students “learn in a calm and purposeful way".

Inspectors said:

The school has high expectations for its pupils. Improvements made to the curriculum are starting to have a positive impact on pupils’ achievement.

The report also said that further improvements could be made regarding student absences and lateness and that the school should “continue its work with families” to prevent this.

It added:

Some pupils with SEND do not receive the adaptations that they need to access an ambitious curriculum.

Inspectors suggested that the “school should build on existing adaptations for these pupils, reflecting on what it is that will help them to learn and make progress in accordance with their individual needs.”

Headteacher Joanne Hall said:

I am very pleased to share the Ofsted report for the recent inspection of the Infant School. There are many highlights that the inspector noted, and we feel extremely proud of our children and how well they spoke about their learning and their school. We were delighted that Ofsted recognised how safe children feel at school and how much they enjoy their learning. Pupils were very confident when speaking to the inspector and were keen to share lots of information with her.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Governing Body for all their support and to give credit to the amazing staff team here at Saltergate. I feel extremely lucky to work with such dedicated colleagues, who strive to do their very best for all our pupils. Thanks should also go to you as parents and carers for all your support, which is always appreciated.

The new Labour government has scrapped one-word Ofsted overall gradings. However, this only applies to inspections taking place from this school year onwards.
