Harrogate Magistrates Court, Victoria Avenue.

A Harrogate man has admitted intending to supply drugs.

Nicolas Martinez, 19, appeared at Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (December 18) charged with three offences: possession with intent to supply cannabis, possession with intent to supply tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and possession of ketamine.

He admitted all the charges.

Mel Ibbotson, prosecuting, told the court police officers stopped a car on Leeds Road in Harrogate on the evening on May 3, 2024.

Martinez, of West End Avenue, was driving the vehicle, which officers said smelled of cannabis.

They asked Martinez to do a roadside drug test, but when a member of the public approached the defendant, he “fled from police”.

Officers proceeded to search his car and found around £500 in cash, as well as “drug paraphernalia” including THC edibles, 1.33 grams of ketamine with a street value of around £40 and THC vape pens.

Police also searched Martinez’s home, where they found around 25 grams of cannabis worth between £145 and £180, the court heard.

Ms Ibbotson said:

Police tried to download the defendant’s phone, but they were not able to. He declined to answer any questions in interview.

Martinez, who was 17 at the time of the offences, has appeared before the courts several times since, including for drink and drug-driving offences.

Mr Ali, defending, said there are “some real strong mitigating factors” in the case, but requested the case be adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

The case was adjourned until March 5, when Martinez will return to Harrogate Magistrates Court for sentence.

He was released on unconditional bail.
