A Harrogate man is set to take on the London Marathon dressed as a monarch in aid of charity.
Jérémie Maillard will take on the challenge on Sunday (April 26) to raise money for Alzheimers Research UK and Yorkshire Cancer Research.
The annual marathon, which was founded in 1981, is expected to see 59,000 runners take part with many participating to raise money for charity.
Mr Maillard said he is aiming to become the “fastest monarch" to ever to complete a marathon.
He said:
This year, I will be running the London Marathon with the aim of becoming the fastest monarch to have ever completed a marathon, raising funds for two charities close to my heart. It follows my previous Guinness‑recognised challenge as the fastest mythical creature to run a marathon in 2022 — this time with a slightly more regal theme.
The two chosen charities are close to Mr Maillard’s heart as his father, who died in 2017, fought Alzheimer's disease and his mother was recently diagnosed with advanced digestive system cancer.
After taking on the London Marathon, he will be heading to France to take part in The Ultra-Marin to continue his fundraising drive.
Mr Maillard said:
I want to do everything in my power to contribute to research against both diseases that have affected my parents.
