An out-of-school children’s sports club has been deemed to meet the requirements set by Ofsted following a recent inspection.
Total Sports was visited by inspectors at Harrogate Ladies’ College in July. It is currently holding sessions at the college until August 29.
Total Sports is a holiday club for primary school children across Yorkshire. It provides activity clubs and PE day sessions during the school holidays.
During their visit, inspectors were impressed by the children’s attitudes. They said:
Children thrive in this vibrant and inclusive holiday club. They arrive eager to join in, knowing they will be welcomed into a warm and stimulating environment. Children actively contribute to the life of the club by sharing their views and voting on decisions about activities. This involvement gives them a real sense of ownership and belonging.
The report also praised the staff at Total Sports, saying they “build strong, trusting relationships with the children, helping them feel safe and confident”.
It added that “children run to staff to hug them and enjoy many interesting conversations with them during their day”.
Staff were identified as excellent role models, modelling respectful behaviour to the children, according to inspectors.
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) were also seen to be fully supported by the club, and are able to participate in all activities.
Inspectors added that that the club enables children to “build friendships and develop social skills in a fun and safe setting”.
