Harrogate paddling pool to re-open tomorrow
The paddling pool in Harrogate's Valley Gardens is set to re-open tomorrow (Saturday, June 13).
The pool was supposed to be opened for the summer season three weeks ago, in time for the late May bank holiday weekend, but it remained closed due to drainage issues discovered during routine maintenance checks.
The problem has now been fixed, the pool has been given a fresh coat of paint, and the facility can reopen, just as the weather looks set to warm up this weekend.
Issues were also discovered at the paddling pools in Bebra Gardens in Knaresborough and Borrage Green play area in Ripon, which will both remain closed for the time being.
Both those paddling pools need to be stripped of their paint and their surfaces treated before a new coat of paint is applied, but no problems with their draining systems have been discovered.
North Yorkshire Council told the Stray Ferret that “it is hoped that the situation for both the pools in Knaresborough and Ripon will be resolved by the start of the school summer holidays in mid-July".
North Yorkshire Council’s executive member of highways and transport, Councillor Malcolm Taylor, said:
We appreciate that local families may be missing being able to use the paddling pools.
For the safety of the public, the pools haven’t opened yet while we carry out investigations, and we were pleased with the results in Harrogate and can announce that it will be open in time for the weekend.
The two other pools will open once repairs are carried out. We are working to resolve the situation as quickly and safely as possible, and we will keep the public updated.
