A Harrogate golfer won a BMW after making a hole-in-one in Spain at the weekend.
John Parry hit an ace on the 17th hole during the third round of the Open de España on Saturday (October 11).
He was presented with the keys to the brand-new BMW iX3 — worth around £78,000 — for hitting the first hole-in-one of the tournament.
In an interview with the DP World Tour, Parry said:
I actually did hit a good shot, it wasn’t like a little lucky one. I had about 197 [yards to the pin] and hit a high 8-iron. The green’s like concrete, so you’re just trying to pitch it front half [of the green]. You can’t see anything from the tee, but the reaction sort of gave it away a bit. [It feels] amazing. It’s always better when you get to win a car as well!
Parry tied for 23rd place overall in the event with a score of seven under par, winning around £25,000 in the process.
This takes his total earnings for the year to over £1,329,000, having secured big payouts at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, The 153rd Open and the Magical Kenya Open.
It was the second hole-in-one of the year for Parry, who also hit one in the third round of The 153rd Open Championship in July. The Knaresborough-born golfer won €159,468.61 for tying for 16th place at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
Parry is now ranked the 95th best player in the world, having dropped two places since his third-place finish at the Dunhill Links.
But he has moved up a place in the Race to Dubai, the season long competition in which the top players get to compete in Dubai. He is in seventh place, just behind Ryder Cup winner Robert MacIntyre. Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy leads the table.
Parry will compete in the DP World India Championship in New Delhi from Thursday to Sunday (October 16-19).
