The owner of a well-known gastropub in Harrogate will open a new site in Leeds next week.
CrowdedHouse, which has taken over the Trinity Leeds unit formerly occupied by Angelica and Crafthouse, is the brainchild of John Quinlan - founder of Three's A Crowd on West Park.
CrowdedHouse markets itself as a “dynamic destination from day to night with dining and drinks throughout”.
The restaurant, which is at the top of the shopping centre, holds up to 500 people across a lounge area, a main restaurant and a private dining room.
People can also use the space to work remotely.
Upstairs, there is a rooftop bar that will remain open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Mr Quinlan said today:
CrowdedHouse will offer the very best of Leeds right in the heart of the city, enjoying dedicated dining spaces across floors five and six with unrivalled views from the terrace, and accompanied by live music as a regular feature. Sundays bring a rich offering of traditional roasts paired with a relaxed atmosphere to recharge for the week ahead.
Leeds has a strong, independent spirit and no shortage of creativity - but it’s craving a venue to celebrate that. So, whether it’s a meeting, a quiet couple of hours to yourself or a catch up with old friends, CrowdedHouse moves with you through the day.
Double AA rosette winner, Simon Jewitt, has been appointed as head chef.
The restaurant today said the menu will “champion Yorkshire provenance”, and will feature dishes such as butter roasted brill, ox cheek, crispy Jerusalem artichokes and beef tartare.
A seafood menu will also be available at the rooftop bar.
Mr Jewitt said today:
This menu has been an opportunity to really shout about what makes our region so special. Wherever possible, we’ve found suppliers who are close to home. Not only does this mean we’re serving the freshest produce, but it means we can shine a light on the region as a focal point for people who really know and love good food.
CrowdedHouse will open its doors on Thursday, July 31, and will operate daily from 10am until late.
Pierre Koffmann, who was dubbed ‘a kind of culinary Pele’ by the Guardian, dined at Three's A Crowd in Harrogate last October.
The 77-year-old Frenchman is one of only a handful of chefs to be awarded three Michelin stars.
The pub shared a photo with the culinary king on social media, as well as a note left by Mr Koffman alongside a drawing of a stereotypically French-looking chef, which said:
Excellent meat. Top sauce.
Pierre Koffmann's note to Three's A Crowd
A spokesperson for the pub told the Stray Ferret at the time Mr Koffman and his wife, Claire, ordered cheese puffs; a mushroom and smoked garlic vol au vent; a chicory, pear and walnut salad with blue cheese, and pork and fennel sausages to start.
For mains, they chose the Hereford Chateaubriand with Diane sauce, and the Yorkshire pork chop with a quince glaze.
The spokesperson said the couple were “kind and understanding”, and took the time to speak to the chef, Matthew Casey.
Mr Koffmann appeared to be in town to assist with heat one of the Deli Fresh Young Chef of the Year Competition, which was held at Bettys.
