A man who died after his car veered off a Harrogate road and plunged down an embankment onto railway tracks died of natural causes, North Yorkshire Police has revealed.
The incident happened on July 18, when the silver VW Golf was heading east along Yorkshire Place.
It suddenly crossed the lane for oncoming traffic, raced across a short section of the Stray, narrowly missing several trees, and ended up on its roof on the Harrogate-Leeds line.
Early rumours that the car was carrying passengers were not confirmed by the police, who said the car had just one occupant.
North Yorkshire Police has declined to name the driver, who was in his 70s, and has said there will be no inquest. His name has not been made public.
The incident shocked many at the time, and caused the closure of York Place, as well as prolonged disruption to train services.
