Harrogate residents expressed their relief as the town’s sole McDonald's reopened today (March 17) after a six-week closure.
The fast food restaurant’s £1 million refurbishment sees upgrades made to the interior, staff break spaces and digital platforming.
A new takeaway courier section has also been added to give Deliveroo riders a specific zone for collecting orders.
The upstairs area has also been completely redesigned, with franchisee supervisor Luke Winterburn saying that it “looks like it belongs in Harrogate”.
The Stray Ferret visited McDonald’s today to ask some of its customers their verdict.

Anne Johnson
McDonald's superfan Anne Johnson has certainly relished the restaurant’s reopening.
Having visited the site almost every day for a decade, she said she felt stranded during the refurbishment:
I’ve really missed it. I didn’t know what to do with myself. I’ve come every day for 10 years. I always get the same thing: a Big Mac with no pickles and no onions. They know my order by now!
I really like the renovation, the seats are lovely and comfy. I liked it before, though. One of my favourite things about it is that everyone talks to you.
When asked what she thinks about some people’s views that McDonald’s is just cheap rubbishy food, she replied, “Is it heck!”

Customers Pam Aldis and Jeanette Ramsey were also impressed with the renovations.
Jeanette had just finished a sweet chilli chicken wrap with a coffee – a personal favourite of hers.
She said:
It’s very nice. It’s fresh, modern and definitely better than before. The wraps are good, and it’s a reasonable price. We usually get coffee and a scone somewhere, and that would cost us £12. I got this for around £7. The speed of it is the best. Everything always comes so quickly.

Antony Dowden and his son Liam were both enjoying a sit-down meal in the new upstairs section today. Antony had a Big Mac while Liam had a double cheeseburger and some chicken nuggets.
Antony told us his verdict:
It’s nice and modern and a lot better than it was. We also got table service today! Everyone has been very friendly. It keeps the kids happy. Liam really likes the chicken nuggets with barbecue sauce.
