Sainsbury's has said that it is “exploring future opportunities” after it closed the café in its Harrogate superstore.

The supermarket announced it would be closing the café in its Wetherby Road store in January. The final customers were served on Friday last week.

The closure was part of the company's nationwide plans to close its remaining 61 cafés. The company said the venues did not attract enough regular customers and that the move would “simplify the business”.

The Stray Ferret previously reported on speculation that the café would be replaced by Greggs.

The bakery chain said it was unable to confirm anything at present, but would “share any information in due course”.

However, there have been no further announcements since then.

We contacted Sainsbury’s this week to find out what its latest plans for the former café site are.

A spokesperson told us ithad not made any announcements and the company was "exploring future opportunities for the space and will keep our colleagues and customers updated".

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when available.
