A pâtisserie on Harrogate’s Cold Bath Road has closed, 15 months after opening.
Chefs Ashley Close and Kian Lian, who once appeared together on TV's Bake Off — the Professionals, opened Pudding Lab in September 2024.
It followed a similar venture run by the duo in Boston Spa.
Pudding Lab didn’t reopen after the festive period and a post appeared on its social media pages yesterday (January 9) confirming its closure.
It said:
“This decision had been made due to us changing the direction of where we want to take our business and have therefore put the Harrogate shop up for sale.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have visited us in the Harrogate shop over the last 15 months. For those that would still like to buy our wonderful patisserie fear not as our Boston Spa shop is most definitely staying open."
The post attracted numerous sympathetic comments, including “we will miss you and your delicious patisseries” and “your chocolate eclairs are the best in the world”.
Another person commented: “The Harrogate venue was just in the wrong place really not enough parking or passers-by.”
Pudding Lab sold creative sweet treats hand-made on the premises.
When it opened, Mr Close described it as “a British version of a French pâtisserie”.
He told the Stray Ferret:
“We’re both very creatively different with ideas and flavours. With patisserie, you’ve got to be very methodical about it – the amounts and the timings – so we work a lot like scientists, hence the name: Pudding Lab.
Mr Lian added the treats were “akin to the standard you’d find at a five-star restaurant”.
