Harrogate Town have announced the signing of defender Kyle Jameson on a short-term deal.
The 27-year-old was released by Newport County at the end of last season after making 42 appearances in two seasons.
The six-foot-three centre back played for Southport, Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion as a youth, and made his professional debut with Barrow in the National League.
More National League experience came with AFC Fylde, before Jameson joined Oldham in the EFL. He had a brief spell at Tranmere Rovers before joining Newport.
He said:
I’m made up to be here and can’t wait to get going.
I like to get on the ball and play, take pride in my defending and give everything I can for the club. It’s a great set-up here and the lads are a top bunch, so I’m really excited to be here.
A mounting injury list, combined with suspensions and players on international duty meant the Sulphurites travelled to Nottingham with 11 first-team players unavailable last Saturday.
They only named three players on the bench, one of whom was goalkeeper Mark Oxley. Manager Simon Weaver said in an interview that Oxley would have played outfield if required.
With a desperate need to sign a defender, Jameson has impressed the Harrogate boss so far.
Weaver said:
He’s trained well, looked fit and eager and has had good experience in this level.
He’s a very mobile centre half and at 27 should be coming into his peak years, he’s already shown on trial how hungry he is and how much he wants to prove a point.
Jameson will wear the number 23 shirt and is available for this weekend’s fixture with Walsall, subject to FA and EFL approval.
