Harrogate veteran ‘humbled’ by response to plea for help
A Harrogate veteran, who issued an appeal for logs after not being able to heat his home, said he has been “overwhelmed” by the response.
Paul Ivison, 63, told the Stray Ferret he was “£1,000 in debt” with his energy company and, subsequently, could not heat his house on Mayfield Grove.
The ex-Royal Navy serviceman said he was buying bags of logs daily, which cost £7.50 each and became “totally unaffordable”.
Mr Ivison added:
Much to Mr Ivison’s surprise, within the first hour of issuing a plea for logs on social media, he had 15 bags of timber delivered to his doorstep.
He said people also offered to deliver electric blankets and his energy provider also sent him a heater.
Mr Ivison said people are still delivering logs.
His post amassed more than 200 comments offering help and support.
Mr Ivison, who is known for elaborately decorating his garden every year, said:
Mr Ivison added that one month on from his appeal people were still delivering logs and wood — with the latest load delivered just yesterday.
The veteran said he now has a “yard and dining room full of logs”, adding someone even dropped off “half a wooden kitchen and a banister to burn”. He added:
