A man has been banned from driving for almost two years after failing to provide a breath sample at Harrogate police station.

Callum Russell, 20, appeared at York Magistrates Court yesterday (March 23) when he admitted failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

According to court documents, Russell failed without reasonable excuse to provide a breath specimen on March 4.

Russell was legally required to do this to assist police with their investigation.

The defendant, of Glenmuir Crescent in Glasgow, was handed a 20-month driving ban. This will be reduced by 20 weeks if he completes a drink-drive awareness course.

Russell was also ordered to pay a £733 fine, a £293 surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs.

Court records say Russell’s previous good character, his guilty plea and his age were all taken into account when considering sentence.
