Hollywood star Rebel Wilson shocked staff in a Harrogate clothes store when she came in to buy a coat.
The Pitch Perfect star, who has 11 million followers on Instagram, has been in Knaresborough filming a new Christmas movie alongside Kiefer Sutherland and Danny Dyer, as reported here and here.
During a break from filming yesterday (February 13) she walked into women's clothing store Mint Velvet, on James Street.
Mint Velvet style advisor Sarah Sowray told the Stray Ferret she only realised who the Australian star was when she asked her to type her email address to recieve promotional emails.
She said:
She came in with two other ladies, one of which was carrying her coat. I thought that was strange.
I started chatting to them and they told me they were working on a film. I didn’t clock on, assuming they were just part of the crew.
I only realised who it was once I got her to sign up for our mailing list! She told me that she wasn’t from here and I said ‘that’s ok, we’ve got Mint Velvet stores everywhere!’ It’s only once she gave me her email address that I realised who it was.
Rebel Wilson’s got 11 million followers, and I was talking to her about how big it was that Danny Dyer was going to be in the movie! I felt so silly afterwards.
Deputy manager Lucy Nightingale also recalled the moment:
She came in to buy a padded bomber jacket in the morning, then came back in the afternoon to buy another one in a different colour.
It was just like serving a normal customer – she was so friendly. I recommended that she has to try Bettys whilst she’s in Harrogate, and when she came back in, she told me that she had been in to buy some cakes.
We get famous people like footballers in store quite often, but this is by far the biggest person I’ve ever met.
I tried to treat her like a normal person, but I was dying inside!
Ms Nightingale said that Wilson had told her that Yorkshire was beautiful, but that it had been so cold over the past week.
The Hollywood actor patiently waited outside whilst Lucy gathered staff for a photo.
Ms Nightingale told us that the general manager, Suzie Poole, was out of office on a work meeting “for the first time in ages” and that she was “absolutely gutted” to have missed the star.
The workers said that Wilson told them she was going for dinner in Harrogate, but that she didn’t say where.
She also did not disclose where she had been staying during filming.
