Jespers of Harrogate won the award last year.

Retailers across the district that are bucking the trend and thriving in an uncertain economy are urged to enter the Stray Ferret Business Awards 2026.

The award for Best Independent Retailer is always hotly contested – and therefore highly prestigious – and will go to a business that has navigated the changes to high-street shopping and as a result is seeing growth in challenging retail times.

The Best Independent Retailer category is sponsored by Hornbeam Park, the company behind one of Harrogate’s largest business parks, and it is one of 10 categories in the awards.

Jackie Wilson of Hornbeam Park said:

Hornbeam Park is delighted to be supporting the Best Independent Retailer category again in 2026, championing the vibrant independent shopping community across our region.

The retail sector has undergone major transformation in recent years and the judges will be looking at how retailers have adapted and navigated through the evolving landscape and its challenges.

This community is the backbone of our high street, providing a unique shopping experience for local people and visitors alike.

The Stray Ferret Business Awards, which are once again sponsored by financial adviser Prosperis, recognise the brightest and best of the region’s business talent across all sectors.

They are open to entrants from across the Harrogate district, including Boroughbridge, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Masham, Nidderdale, Ripon and the surrounding areas.

The winners will be announced to 350 guests at a superb black-tie event in the Pavilions of Harrogate on March 26.
