A sports area in Jennyfields is set to undergo significant improvements after falling into “poor condition”.
North Yorkshire Council has awarded a £68,000 contract to Keighley-based Axo Leisure Services Limited to carry out work at the site near to Active North Yorkshire - Harrogate Leisure and Wellbeing Hub on Jennyfield Drive.
The authority said the funding has been allocated from developer contributions to help improve the space.
The sports area includes a large open space with a hard surface basketball court.
The council said the funding will help to improve the space for the benefit of children and young people.
The improved facility would be fenced and have new line markings for basketball and netball as well as multi-functioning hoops.
The council added:
These projects will enable children and young people to enjoy better quality facilities for years to come. It is therefore recommended the improvement projects are supported so funding is not lost.
According to a council report, the project is expected to start in June this year.
