Knaresborough and Bishop Monkton gear up for running events
More than 200 people are expected to take part in Knaresborough’s biggest running event of the year on Sunday next weekend.
The Crag Rat Run, organised by Knaresborough Striders, is named after the term used to describe a person from the town.
The five-mile route begins at Knaresborough Cricket Club on Aspin Lane and then follows trails down the crag to the River Nidd. Competitors cross the bridge near the Petrifying Well and continue along the riverside before climbing the crag to finish back at the cricket club.
The race, which attracts fun runners as well as serious athletes, has a maximum capacity of 250.
At the time of going to press, almost 50 places remained. Entry is permitted on the day, if spaces remain, but the cost rises from £14 to £16 for competitors not affiliated to running clubs.
The events starts at 11am and money raised goes to local charities.
Last year's female and male Crag Rat Run winners Davina Ellis and Mark Houlden.
The following weekend, on Sunday, September 29, the Friends of Bishop Monkton School host the Beck Busters 10k for the seventh year.
The multi-terrain course starts and finishes at Bishop Monkton Primary School and has capacity for 300 runners. About 130 places remained at the time of going to press.
It incorporates a mixture of road, footpaths and trails, including sections along the River Ure and Ripon Canal. Runners pass through Littlethorpe before heading back cross country to Bishop Monkton.
Entry is £20 for unaffiliated runners. You must register in advance to take part.
