The signs around the cafe have reportedly all been broken.

A café owner in Knaresborough has spoken out after being the victim of several “unpleasant incidents” over several months.

In a post of Facebook, the owner of the Watermill Café, beside the Lido, said that the café had been the target of deliberate damage, fake online reviews and that they had even received a call to say their dog was dead.

The owner said:

The behaviour of a very small number of people has become completely unacceptable. More disturbingly, I also received a telephone call telling me that my dog had been killed. That call caused me an enormous amount of distress. I have evidence concerning the circumstances surrounding that call and the involvement of a former employee, and the matter has been reported to the police. The phone call was traced back by the police very quickly due to the massive amount of upset this caused me.

The incidents at the café have been reported to police and social media activity is being dealt with by Facebook, with the owner saying everything has been documented by their legal team. More CCTV has also been installed around the café.

It is alleged that there is “considerable” more evidence relating to what has happened, but it won’t be disclosed for legal reasons.

The post continues:

Those responsible know what they have done, and I am confident that the proper channels are the right way to deal with it. What I will say is this: I am fully aware of what is happening, I am documenting everything. ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

The Watermill Café has been built through 10 years of incredibly hard work, and I will not allow the behaviour of a small number of unpleasant people to intimidate me, damage my business or spoil what we have created for our lovely customers.
